Wedding mood board: from inspiration to reality

I haven’t really put much thought towards wedding planning until probably 10 months after getting engaged. I knew I didn’t want to have a big wedding, definitely not a typical Slovak one.

And - I had zero idea about the wedding dress, venues or flowers.

After some thoughts and watching tons of friends getting married 😅 I figured the only way to distill my ‘vibe' is through browsing, pinning, moodboarding, saving stuff to my instagram folder - trying to narrow down what I like and don’t like through trial and error.

With that in mind, I got to know myself and my aesthetics better. I learned that:

  • I despise lace - it’s incredibly hard to get it right if you’re not planning a destination wedding in Italy or historic villas on the Lake Como

  • No floral patterns

  • No ‘round' aesthetics

  • I really love clean lines and rectangular shapes (this is relevant to my day-to-day wardrobe as well)

  • No flowery hairstyle or real flowers/crown

  • No updo’s - I rarely see a good updo styling that doesn’t make brides old. (Unless you’re 20-23 years old - you can wear literally anything and still look young!)

  • No ‘princess’ aesthetics - no big cake-y dress - not my vibe

  • I like sleek silhouettes and simple cuts

  • Timeless all the way

  • I prefer high-end vibe as opposed to eg. boho aesthetics

  • I found ‘edgy but modern’ wedding vibe quite intriguing!

  • Up until 3 weeks before the wedding, I didn’t even know what kind of a bouquet I would go for :D - flowers are still a mystery to me!

Since we decided to go with a combination of a micro city hall wedding and a destination wedding celebration at the end of the summer, I chose a very modern look for our civil ceremony in Prague.

I came across Septem Paris via an online article in French Vouge and went on to browse their website for wedding jumpsuits. I knew I found the one- unfortunately, it was sold out. Following up on my inquiry about future restocks, the eshop wasn’t able to tell me if it would ever come back again.

While I couldn’t see myself waring a dress, I went with the option two: a white suit. Tried on a few (bad) ones from Asos, concluded that a wide leg cut doesn’t fit my body and went on to search for more fitted silhouettes. I was served an ad by Slovak online boutique and ordered a nice suit made in Italy. I decided to keep it as an extra option.

Few months went by… and to my surprise, the original jumpsuit was back in stock. I ordered it straight away. The piece needed altering - which made a massive difference!

The main inspiration for the overarching aesthetics was from my favourite fashion campaign ever. The Tiffany introducing Tiffany T collection back in 2014, featuring Freja Beha.

If you’d ask me what is my no. 1 motivational video, it would be this one. Pure timelessness.

B&W New York - it doesn’t get better than this.

Few weeks in the run up to the wedding, I’ve put together (the exact) following mood boards and shared them with the photographer, make up artist, hair stylist and florist.

This way, they’d get a better gist of a vibe you’d like to achieve.

Hair and Make-Up

Since my outfit was simple and almost sporty - I knew I need to double down on the glam and accessories. Shiny Hollywood waves, natural makeup focused on eyes to balance the look. I’ve added a few ‘bling’ accessories - sparkly stilettos, hair accessories and a bracelet.

The bouquet

I was missing ‘something blue’ and went with a soft blue flowers in my bouquet to do the job.

I couldn’t be more pleased with the final result - cheers to professionals that made it all happen. :)
