90’ and early 00’ teen dramas
Induced by the pandemic’s longing for the good old times, nostalgia got me into a teen drama vortex back in 2020.
I grew up watching films and tv shows heavily influenced by the American culture. Back in the day, when we used to rent VHS and tv series were not on-demand, it was almost impossible to keep up with them! On top of that - I got bored quite easily and there was always something more interesting to do - a proof that linear tv is not my cup of tea.
And because I don’t tend to watch series in the first place ( The last one I can remember is House of Cards and lately Ozark) - going for the 90’ and early 00’ tv material is quite an indulgence!
The aesthetics, the cinematography, scripts, the music, the outfits, the vibe!
Pure bliss if you ask me 😁.
Here’s a roundup of series I’ve watched over the last 3 years.
Dawson’s creek
This series kick-started the teen drama wave. As well as careers of the main protagonists.
The original classic.
Gilmore girls
Unbelievably comforting and warm series with a high rewatchability aspect. I remember GG airing when I was little but never really got to watch it.
Incredible writing. Featuring probably the most annoying character I ever saw on tv. I gradually couldn’t stand Rory and producers really finished her off in the renewal. On the opposite, I loved Emily.
Team Logan all the way. And, he’s probably the most enjoyable male lead from all of the series I watched!
Felicity
I only learned that Felicity was directed by JJ Abrams once I started it. It is the only series he started and finished until the last episode. Great vibe, great cast, characters and storylines are more mature as they are set in a college environment.
One Tree Hill
This is the series with the most incredible music score. Starring Chad Michael Murray - the star of teen drama era (He was cast in 3 out of 5 of the series I’m listing here - not to mention all the teen drama films..). The story that took way to long to end (9 series!). I really enjoyed the first 3-4 series.
The OC
California, the usual, predictable plot. What a nice escapism! If you’re born in the early 90’, you’ll probably remember - and appreciate the fashion era of this series.
