2018 beauty cupboard (from the top: 1. His, 2. Skincare, 3. Haircare)

Inspired by Tim Ferris and his huge love for journaling, I thought it would be interesting to capture the current state of my beauty cabinet and products that made a difference in 2018.

In a nutshell, think about it as a technique of capturing the know-how of your past self.

So if I ever look at any 2018 photo of myself and think – wow, my skin looked perfect! What did I use? The recipe would be few journals away. Or, in this case – a few clicks away.

Looking back at 2018, the year has been HOT. The non-existent spring meant transitioning from winter to 25 degrees in no longer than a couple of days beginning April.

Chill in Caparica

Fast forward a relatively short 4 months brought unbearably hot days spent in air-conditioned spaces even during the sleep. Obviously, aircon took its toll and left me several times with a sore throat, tonsillitis and eventually antibiotics in September. (Cheers to Covonia you can see hiding on the top shelf.)

A quest for this year has been to look for the perfect moisturizer. (Which, up to this point, I haven’t found yet.) What I discovered, however, was THE BEST face serum. I ordered a sample of Malin & Goetz with my Spacenk order in January, which eventually lasted 9 days – a period long enough to test the stuff properly. I used it on my trip to California and ordered it first thing when I got back.

A combo of the serum and SPF 50 from Clarins kept me going until mid-October. Constantly testing out moisturizers during this period on the side.

While being roasted alive for 6 months in Central Europe, adding in several weeks in California, few weeks in Portugal and I almost forgot what winter really looks like.

Only after I found an ‘ok’ oil-free moisturizer from Kiehl’s, the stuff turned out to be completely useless once temperatures drop under 12 degrees.

It’s much harder to fill the water-bottle in early winter and I partially think my dehydrated skin had a water shortage from the inside.

Stepping into December, I found myself bathing my skin in oils. (Something I’ve never done before). In the span of the last 3 years, I only used Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate occasionally, a couple of times per month.

I guess I’m just getting older.

What are your trusted beauty products? Have you discovered anything interesting this year? Would love to hear your tips!
